1. Requirements for animal be introduced into Room B1 (Recovery Room) and Operating Room:
(1) Injection of tumor cell.
(2) Surgery.
PS. Surgery is defined as any procedure involving opening a portion of the body cavity, such as a craniotomy, thoracotomy, or laparotomy, followed by suturing. Therefore, simply subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, or intravenous injection do not be counted as a surgery.
2. It is recommended to cover the floor with autoclaved tissue instead of laying directly on bedding post-surgery. Animal should lie on their sides, not on their backs, to prevent aspiration pneumonia. A warming pad or heating pad should be used outside the cage to maintain its body temperature. After surgery, please observe the animal until it is fully awake before leaving to avoid the risk of postoperative death or being bitten.
3. Observe the animal's pain after surgery. Failure to provide pain relief can reduce activity and animal’s appetite, thus hindering recovery. Therefore, painkillers, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and other medications should be administered continuously after (or even before to provide the drug duration) surgery.
4. Post-operative animal observation should last at least 3 days and should be recorded in the "Post-surgery Observation Record" in our operating room.
5. Sutures and staples should be removed from the animal's skin 7-14 days after surgery (unless approved by IACUC or by the veterinarian after evaluating the animal's recovery).
